What is your favorite scene of the movie?[/color]

Below is mine. It is the moment of love that Ennis and Jack embrace for each other.

I wish I knew how to quit you.

I liked it so much when Ennis eyes was full of water.. ahhh it was so cute and then Jack hugged him :D

I agree. That shot of Ennis hugging Jack from behind is the best. It really shows that Ennis had indeed let Jack know how he felt about him. The quoted arguement scene was interesting too. Here we see Ennis really breakdown. He hid the fact from Jack the entire week that they couldn't see eachother the next month. Well Duh! If he told Jack right away they both would have been sulking about it all week. I can see why Ennis waited until the last minute to tell Jack.

And when he thought that Jack could cheat on him, he looses it and tells Jack that basically he gave up everything for him. His wife and even several jobs he lost because he took so much time off to be with Jack. Indeed, he had nothing. Nothing but clinging to the few happy days he could get with Jack.

You know, I really want to see the movie again, but I just can't. It just tears me up thinking about it the first time I saw it. Dammit, this movie haunts me!

This is the scene that I'll probably never forget.

Maybe because it could have been shot at my parents home. The mother who knows, maybe has known for longer than the son himself, the father who is in total denial and the unspoken agreement not to talk about it to each other . Too brilliant actors managed to tell an entire story worth it's own 2-hour movie with just their facial expressions and gestures. And each of them summed it up in one sentence ...Mother: Do you want to see his room....father....end he will be buried here......

That scene was when I began my hour long cryfest (I didn't start bawling till the postcard came back DECEASED) but it's still my favourite. There's something about the intense closeness of their situation but at the same time the huge lonliness of it that makes this movie so memorable. I wish everyone, everywhere could see it. I really think it would change some peoples view on love

With the breath-taking Wyoming mountain backdrop, Ennis and Jack finally, finally open up their hearts and throw it all out on the table. Jack's frustration with limited time, limited access, limited relationship. Ennis feeling roped into something he wasn't so sure of. "I wish I could quit you." Profoundly speaking from the heart. "Jack, you've forgotten what it's like to be poor." Jack wishing that their world was one of greater tolerance so that the two could have a ranch and live happily ever after, but not to be. Ennis finally breaks down in tears (what cowboys never do) and finds himself consumed in a flood of emotion...pain, heartache and frustration. Jack's determination in validating his decision to distance the relationship with those closer to him in Texas. In some sense, a strangle parallel between Brokeback Mountain and the tragedy of Madame Butterfly. Jack and Butterfly waiting and reaching for a dream to come true that never does. Both willing to die for what their hearts could not let go.

Right before Ennis leaves, he puts his arms around Jack and whisperingly hums a song his mother used to sing to him. A wonderfully poignant playback to his childhood, connecting the audience with a sweet reconciling and comforting love for Jack despite their earlier frustrations. Jack turns to watch Ennis ride off (in traditional cowboy closure), and Jack's eyes say it all. A timeless moment.

I agree too. That shot of Ennis hugging Jack from behind is among the best. :'(But the one that really moves me is the shirts scene, no word is said, no need to have any... Bloody Post Brokeback Syndrom! Writing this I just have tears (again) in my eyes. :'(

i don't know how you all did it...i can't pick just a single scene!!
but some of my favorites are:
-the first scene where ennis and jack are in aguire's office and they keep stealing glances at eachother =)
-where they talk about rodeos and jack goes all crazy
-the 2nd tent scene
-where aguire looks at them through the binoculars. they are just so happy.
-where they get in the fight on their last day on brokeback
-of course their reunion
ok i guess i'll stop becuase i'm practically naming every scene. haha

There are a number of favorite scenes I have in the movie. Certainly the kiss that Ennis bestows on Jack when they meet after four years, and definitely the hug that Ennis offers Jack from behind which seems to be a favorite scene for many of the members here. It is so warm and tender, and connects well with my romantic side. But, for me, the scene that tore me apart and still grabs hold of my psyche is the discovery Eniis makes of his old bloody shirt of twenty years in the sleeve of Jack's bloody denim jacket. The way he embraces it and smells it and cries is, for me at least, the most beautiful moment of the film, and I weep every time. There may have been tension in the relationship and reticence on the pasrt of Ennis, but that scene showed how much he loved Jack. I'm crying right now just writing these words. Time to get out the tissues.

Thought my hubby is a tough man and can't be touched at all. But the scene at Jack's parents moved him to tears. Good works!

I agree with most of the posters, my favorite scene was "I wish I could quit you" scene. It's soo terribly moving. And adding to the fact that I already KNEW THE ENDING because my dear friend spoiled it for me, that is when the dam burst, and I couldn't stop crying for the life of me. The most shocking scene? When Ennis is on the phone, and we see what really happens.... I shouldn't spoil it, but that made everyone gasp and like we all cried. It was funny walking out of the theater, because everyone who was in line for like Hostel and The Family Stone and Narnia were looking at me and my friend Aly funny, because we were still crying.

Did anyone else know the ending though? Come to think of it, I'm glad I knew, because that prepared me for it. Aly didn't know, so she was like on the floor with grief. I hadn't of known, I woulda been like the loudest person in the theater probably. This is now my favorite movie, which puts Titanic at number two, after being at number one since 1998.

Just remembered...I also loved all the little tidbits from that summer on Brokeback Mountain, those first few weeks where Jack tried to get Ennis' attention.

e.g: When he goes back to the sheep and makes his horse turn and turn around...ENNIS WATCH ME! ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I AM GOING! LOOK AT ME DAMMIT!

In the end he just goes, still looking at Ennis with his puppy eyes...but with less drama!

I have too many favourite scenes, but a couple of them are:

When they part after the first time on Brokeback and Jack drives away with a tear in his eye and Ennis drops to his knees in tears, half vomiting. The power of love, lust. That was my first tear when I watched it.

When Ennis has the shirts from Jack's room rolled up and Jack's mother gets him a bag to carry them in, as if knowing what they meant to Ennis, but sheilding form her husband. Eyes filled again at this point, especially since Ennis had been hugging the shirts in the bedroom.

So many other scenes blew me away.

Excited sexual thrill when they meet for the first time and are aggressively kissing and then horror and a sick jolt to the stomach when Alma spots them through the door. Such a powerful film.

I could go on. How about from the minute it started to the last credit? I don't even want to quit this film!!

I think my 3 fave scenes are:

When Ennis is waiting for Jack when they havent seen each other for 4 years. I love the fact the Ennis is in his best clothes, all neatly pressed, hair combed - he's pacing up and down - its just so lovely, he looks like an excited little boy.

When Ennis holds the shirts to his face in Jack's bedroom. This seems like the big monent, he really feels what Jack meant to him and he realises how much Jack mustve loved and yearned for him too.

The final heratbreaking scene 'Jack, I swear...'. Say no more...

After viewing number four, I have a new favorite: Ennis in the trailer with Jr. at the end. He asks Jr. if her husband to be loves her and for a split second, looks off and all the pain and anguish of what he had and lost is etched in his face. It is so powerful. Especially given that this actor is 25 years old! When Jr. replies, "yes, daddy he does" or something to that affect, Ang Lee goes back to Ennis and shows him turn back to his daughter with a look of contentment. Saying with his eyes, "at least she has a shot at the happy ending".

The other is the extreme close up of Lureen describing Jack's death. Her almost clinical reportage of the circumstances begin to melt away slightly and at the end her eyes are brimming with tears. It is a bizzare visage of bleached blonde hair red fingernails, and tear filled eyes. Very moving to me.

And then there are there is the simple gesture of Jack touching Ennis's cheek while they are by the campfire. It is either before or after the "It could be like this. Just like this speech" God, I well up just thinking about it.

Maybe it's whend Ennis and Jack are for the last time (i think) in BBM, near the "lac" and the fall arm each other knee has earth, crying.

I think it's my fovorite scene. It's sad, but.. It was beautiful and touching.

Ennis collapsing in the doorway after he and Jack part after the first summer.

Such a "manly" response to an unbearable swell of emotion. Thinking about all the feelings he is having and how he is fighting himself. At that moment, it all hits him and he probably thinks that he will never see Jack again.

As a side note, I also love the moment when, after running after Alma screaming, Ennis asks his little girls on the swingset if they need a push.
