Shreveport’s Robinson Film Center in April will offer a retrospective of the early films of an Academy Award‐winning director best known for “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Brokeback Mountain.”

It will honor the work of Taiwanese‐American director Ang Lee. The 2001 film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Movie, 2005’s “Brokeback Mountain” got the nod for Best Director.

The film series, a reception and panel discussion are made possible by a grant from the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Houston. The Centenary College Film Society also is a partner. Screenings are free and open to the public.

April 5
• 7:30 p.m. “Pushing Hands” (Taiwan, 1992, in Mandarin and English with subtitles. 92 minutes)

April 7:
• 6:30 p.m. Reception with heavy hors d'oeuvres featuring representatives from the Taiwanese Consulate in Houston and the Tapei Economic and Cultural Office of Houston

• 6:45 p.m. “Eat Drink Man Woman” (Taiwan/United States, 1994, in Mandarin and French with subtitles. 122 minutes.)

• A panel discussion will follow the film. Speakers include Alexandyr Kent, director of community relations and educational programming, The Robinson Film Center; Jefferson Hendricks, professor of English and film studies, Centenary College; and John Vassar, professor of humanities and chairman of fine arts, foreign languages and humanities, LSU-Shreveport.

April 9
• 5:30 p.m. “The Wedding Banquet” (Taiwan/United States, 1993, in Mandarin and English with subtitles. 106 minutes.)
