Who is the women in the relationship?
« on: Mar 20, 2006, 09:49 PM »
Hi, this is something that has been bothering me so... >:(
People always ask me about the movie... "so who is the women in the relationship?"
And it just bothers me so much!!!!!!!!! >:(
Its not like either Jack or Ennis were girly in any way!!! They were both so manly, and such stron cowboys, that there is no need for anyone to have to characterize them as one being the "man" and one being the "woman" - I mean hello! they are both gay, which means they like MEN, not "girly men" but they are attracted to each other just as they are, manly and sexy and hot! :P ;D
Has anyone else been asked this before? And what do you think about it?  ;)

Hello, Ms. Delmar - welcome and thanks for asking.

No, no one has asked me the question luckily. If someone does, I will say "I don't know, maybe you want to see it again." ;D

You may find the following topic interesting and helpful to answer this question (I hope you don't get to ask this a lot)

jack and ennis - "equals"? one dominant party?

Enjoy your time here.  :D

thanks Ethan! i read that other post you put there, and it does help... I just wonder why people have to classify them in that way.  The Man and the Woman you know? Its stupid, because when you've seen the movie, well you know better...

That question does indeed infuriate me to no end Ms. D.   I think the question was asked on this forum and if so there is probably a thread for it.  But the fact is, neither was the woman.  They are homosexuals because they like men as you say. On the first night Ennis was the aggressor with a man.  What they did after that is nobody's business but we can be sure it was sex between two men.

Tell you what...truth is, sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it...

You are welcome. Actually I don't think it is stupid. Sometimes people have a hard time understanding the same-sex attraction. Love is complex and doesn't clear by gender.

I know a married couple. The husand is actually the "woman" and the wife is the "man." So go figure.  :D

Definitely!!! I think one of the things that made Jack and Ennis both so sexy was the fact that they both remained so manly and "cowboyish" even while being with each other.  They are not like some gay men that I know that definitely act like girls, by the way they talk, the way they dress, or the way they do everything... Jack and Ennis definitely remained manly and strong, and so on... And I don't think that it was only because of the social life back then where they couldn't show their true feelings... Because even if they could have, I don't think neither of them would have acted "girly" whatsoever... It just wasn't them  :)

I definately agree with you Ms. D. But, it is important to remember that there are men born with more female hormones than male hormones.  That is something they can not help.  I worked with a guy that I thought for sure was really a women trying to act like a guy.  And, I had a boss once who was a woman but I am sure she could have beat me up!  These hormone imbalances are not their fault and they are who they are.  I have fead stories about men, real men, who prefer othermen with this hormone imbalance.  They get to be with another male but get to be the man in the relationship.  It works out for both of them.

As for me, I am a male and I am a man but, I want the strong arms of a man hugging me.

Tell you what...truth is, sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it...

Good question,

First tent scene we all agree Ennis was the agressor.

Second tent scene, Ennis just melted in Jack's arms.

Go figure!  Do we need those labels actually?

Thanks Chameau! I agree with you, they are both like that at their own times... Its so adorable:) :) And yes, its true Patriot, I guess it does depend on the hormones... It depends on the individual...
Jack and Ennis are just so adorable! I love the part when Ennis knocks Jack's cowboy hot off when he's kissing him outside his home, that's so cute! :D

Once again, during the reunion scene kiss, Ennis is the agressor but during the motel scene who is resting on his lover's shoulder?  I just love what Ang Lee made of Annie's short story and the screenplay.
