Author Topic: Jack whispering "Ennis!!" during the first reunion scene: (Read 26531 times)

This one I did hear in the theater before, and can hear on the DVD as well, but after noting the post about the audio experiment on one of the other audio suprises thread, I am curious whether any others hear or notice this:
In the reunion scene where Jack and Ennis rush together to embrace, just as Ennis's arms audibly encircle Jack's back, I hear Jack exhale "Ennis!", followed immediately by "son of a b**ch". The "Ennis" sounds as if his meaning is: "I can't believe it finally after 4 years!" When I heard it in the theater, during my second viewing, it brought a tear to my eye. The captions don't have it though, just the s.o.b. Anyone else notice this? I haven't seen this referred to elsewhere.

Nope, just heard the "sonofabitch".

Sounds like an excuse to go and watch again, though, if one were needed.

I hear something but would not swear it was "Ennis". I thought all this time it was Jack taking in a breath to say "Son of a b*tch."

I watched the scene last night and I hear him say Ennis. It is immediately before the S.O.B. I watched it {the whole scene} 6 times to be sure- yeah that's why I watched it so many times-lol

And LJN, no need to fret about watching that scene multiple times. After all, we must be diligent and thorough in our research!

It's nice to have this detail confirmed by others. I teared up when I first noticed it, and at least it's a relief that other people can now hear the voices in my head!! "Ennis!!...Ennis!!...Ennis!!..." :D

Don't worry you are not crazy proulxfan your are just BBM obessed honestly i probable heard that the frist time but didn't paid attention to it but after many times watching the movie you realize of many things!!

How could I have missed this originally? It's clear as day! "Ennis ... sonofabitch" said with so much feeling.

In my defence, though, I was so caught up in the emotion of the reunion (and the...um...passion displayed by the two boys

) that I didn't hear any of the words that were spoken, other than the "sonofabitch". Watching a scene, then rewinding and watching again (and again and again...) wasn't an option in the cinema, funnily enough. Can't think why

Yes we must Proulxfan! It's such a hardship watching that scene over and over.

Even though they are little things that were not noticed earlier, each new discovery only enhances this story for me.

In response to your query regarding what Ennis says in response to Jack's telling him he's be better off sleeping in the tent at the beginning of the FNIT, all I hear him respond, with the volume turned up high, is a rather slurred "Yeah!" as if he is on the verge of passing out. I checked it four times, and that's what I got.

I never heard the soft whisper "Ennis" until reading this thread. It is ever so slight, but still a pitch just above the "I love you" in the closet... Thank You for the eye/ear opener!

I did'nt catch this . Does he really whisper this? wow. there so many things in this movie that I gues ya have to listen so closly because they are barely audible. Headphones do help though. I could swear I hear Ennis say "lil darlin" right before he pushes Jack into the wall. He whispers something at this point that sounds alot like that.

Jack definitely says "Ennis" - but it is all strung together with the "sonofabitch", so you hear a kind of "Ennisonofabitch".

As to what Ennis says before he pushes Jack into the wall, I think it's either "c'mere" or "over 'ere"....

well on the dvd i put it on subtitles and it said that and then after watching it after 50 times i finally heard it so ur not the only one

Jack kind of whispers Ennis and you catch the tail end of it...listen for the "S" it then blends with the sonofabitch...So adorable!!!!
