Ennis and Jack in the truck
« on: Feb 08, 2006, 10:30 AM »
I don't know if this has been asked before, so apologies if so.  But there's a scene in the trailer (which, annoyingly, isn't in the film) with Ennis and Jack in Jack's truck.  Where are they going?  Where have they been?  Ennis looks.....I don't know....sad, pensive....I know that's not unusual for Ennis, but I got to thinking....was this just before they left Brokeback the first time?  I love the look on Ennis's face, and just wonder if anyone else has any idea about this scene.

Also, why wasn't it included in the film?

Of what age were Jack and Ennis during this truck scene?    Young or older?   Just wondering if it could have been during one of their 2 to 4 meetings per year later in life.

wow, I hadn't noticed this.  It's odd to me that they put things in trailers that aren't in the actual film ???  Really odd.

A bit OT - but also the line in the trailer when Jack says "well, if we're going to start working together we might as well start drinking together" or something like that.  NOT in the movie!

Yes..I know that trayler ...there is also a scene with jack shirtless on a brige...
and at the beginning you can hear the voice of Jack saying:
"If we're going to be working together, I reckon it's time we start drinking together."
This phrase is  not in the film ( I think it's in the book).

In that clip, Ennis is wearing the plaid shirt that Jack later takes.  I'm assuming the clip was a scene that took place before they even went up to the mountain for the first time.

I also noticed a shot in the trailer of two men that look rather mean.  I expect the scene where Jack was murdered was longer at one time and edited out.

The not-in-the-movie truck scene has several oddities about it:

1) They are wearing the Brokeback shirts... so it's got to be before the bloody nose incident.
2) They both look like they could bite the heads off nails.  They're angry or upset about something.
3) Jack is driving... suggesting that it might be his truck.

No solution here.  Just adding to the riddle.

Speaking of riddles:  We know that they met at Aquirre's trailer early on what we'll call morning #1.  We know that they spent the afternoon drinking, and that they picked the sheep, dogs, pack mules, etc on what we'll call morning #2.  I wonder where they spent they night between the 2 mornings?

And another riddle... Jack did talk how about the 42 dead sheep the previous summer on Brokeback that got hit by lightening.  How come Aguirre never even acknowleged that he remember Jack? How come Jack never even reference the previous summer during the summer with Ennis?  "This is where me and Bob Crabapple killed us a mountain lion"  or "Last year the tent didn't smell as bad" Anyways, yea, can't wait til the DVD!

Wait. Jack wasn't driving. Somebody else was driving the car.

If you notice, Jack's facial expression was somehow happy, while Ennis was grieving over something. This shot has to be taken when they came down from BBM. Ennis didnt want to leave Jack but was too afraid to communicate his thoughts, he just swallowed it and later cried after Jack left him. What do you guys think?

In the Charlie Rose interview, I believe Ang Lee says that the alternative scenario of Jack's death, the wheel rim, was filmed and intended to be played under the scene of Ennis at Jack's home in Lightning Flats... but it did work.  The trailer scene you're talking about seems to be in a garage, and there are wheels and tires lying around.  I wonder if it could be part of the alternative death scene?  Allan

I think this scene could have been on from the morning they are departing to BBM.  If you'll notice, Ennis appears to be wearing the shirt that was eventually taken by Jack.  Ennis's shirt on their departure was darker.

:)i was kind of hoping that this scene was when Jack and Ennis are being fetched down off the mountain before they get back to Aguirres trailer-that why Ennis looks cut up, its the end of something life changing for him x

I think jack on the bridge was a stand-in, but suposed to be a shot of Ennis looking at jack.

The two men are the two that do the unspeakable, listen to Ennis line when they appear in the trailer... This thing grabs hold of us at the wrong time and the wrong place...two guys (notice the tire iron)...we'll be dead...

jack and Ennis sleep in Jacks truck between the first and second morning, Ennis is having a really bad hangover and that is why he is seen with his eyes closed in that shot, when they get trucked up to the sheep. Jack on the other hand just "spent the night" with Ennis and is not so hung over, he is happy  :)

I'm hoping for 15 mins of deleted scenes.  Who is driving the truck?  All questions should be answered once the dvd is out....can't wait to get my hands on it and hold it tight!  The other ppl in the other pic suggests that they have seen Jack with another guy?  And Jack standing alone there is a shot about the lonliness he felt?
"Come on Ennis, you just shot my plane out a the sky!-give me somethin a go on.  This ain't no little thing that's happenin here"---Jack Twist

Ennis, weather-eyed, looked west for the heated cumulus that might come up on such a day but the boneless blue was so deep, said Jack, that he might drown looking up.

His shaking hand grazed Ennis's hand, electrical current snapped between them.

Jack on that bridge, I think Ang sayd, was supposed to be a Jack that Ennis was looking at, and it isn't Jake its a double  :)
