This is kind of an obsessive thing to do. Here are driving directions and a map from Childress, TX to Riverton, WY. I sooo would've done it, too. There probably wasn't even a good set of interstate highways back then, so imagine the time it took. There had to be so much more than "a couple of high-altitude f#cks."

1.   Starting in CHILDRESS, TX on AVENUE F[US-287] go toward 2ND ST NE - go 2.0 mi
2.   Continue to follow US-287 - go 104.9 mi
3.   Take Left ramp onto I-40 WEST toward DUMAS/AMARILLO - go 7.8 mi
4.   Take exit #70 onto US-87 NORTH toward DUMAS - go 2.4 mi
5.   Take ramp onto US-87 NORTH toward DUMAS - go 211.7 mi
6.   US-87 NORTH becomes CLAYTON RD - go 0.5 mi
7.   Turn Right onto I-25 NORTH - go 316.7 mi
8.   Take exit #8B onto I-80 WEST toward LARAMIE - go 143.4 mi
9.   Take exit #215/I-80-BL BUSINESS/US-287 NORTH onto I-80-BL WEST toward RAWLINS - go 1.1 mi
10.   Turn Right on N HIGLEY BLVD[US-287-BYP] - go 1.5 mi
11.   Continue to follow US-287-BYP - go 0.1 mi
12.   Turn Right on US-287 - go 84.3 mi
13.   Turn Right on SAND DRAW RD - go 36.1 mi
14.   SAND DRAW RD becomes GAS HILLS RD[WY-136] - go 0.2 mi
15.   Turn Right on WY-789 - go 1.3 mi
16.   Continue on N FEDERAL BLVD - go 0.1 mi
17.   Turn Right on E FREMONT AVE - go 0.1 mi
18.   Arrive at the center of RIVERTON, WY
Pair of deuces going nowhere.

Plane tickets at those times were an arm and a leg.

Well when you are in love you do crazy things.  Wow all that driving and Jack wasn't bored with it either.  He kept coming back over and over again.

i knew exactly how Jack felt tho....i drove from Ceres, Ca. to Fort Hood Texas to see my "Ennis".  It was his first three day pass after being drafted.  Since I knew how shy he was I wanted to give him the chance to be straight if that is what he wanted, (when u really love someone ya gotta think of them first), so I brought a willing female with me for him.  At a certain time I retreated to the bathroom with a six pack of beer so they could have some privacy....later when he knocked on the door, he said he couldn't "get off" and amazingly we had the first tent scene in the bed next to hers....wow...until this movie I had not thought of this in years....

Flew from Montreal to Boston.  Did the same to Atlanta but, I was also to attend a wedding, this one doesn't really count.  Took the bus many times down to Albany or Syracuse.

If my man Jake called, I wonder how far I would drive to get to that boy?   Just to look into those dreamy blue eyes.

I have a "friend" . My only one at the moment who lives 2000 miles away, I've a feeling we may just be doing it for real soon. The travelling that is...the rest will just be a bonus

Have I shared too much....ah well I'm amongst friends

I flew from Houston to Paris once, searching for someone I had had a severe infatuation with.  Had a crazy idea that I would just accidentally "find him" somewhere in Europe during that summer 15 years ago!  What a joke!  Eventually caught up with him in Mexico City when he returned to the Americas a year later.
What are you waiting for cowboy?  A mating call?

I live in Taiwan, and my husband in US. How about that? But you know what, we couldn't have done it if this was a secret relationship with little hope of ever progressing anywhere. And I believe that's what made Jack's effort so heart-breaking and great at the same time.
