Here are my prediction - 7

I would not be surprised about Artistic Direction and Costumes Design...  Sets and costumes are a big part of the unspoken language in BBM.

Don't forget to divide the Music Nominations into Best Score and Best Song(s): Willie Nelson and Emily Lou Harris. Do not underestimate BMM for best Costumes or Art Direction or Production Design, too.  I would love to see 10 or 11 nominations. I really think Picture, Director, and Cinematography are wins for BBM. I know it deserves more. Hate to say it, but let's see how the Box Office is after wide release this weekend. Sadly, thats makes a difference.

Golden Globes will help, I just cross my fingers for Heath and Michelle.  That would be just too cute they win the awards.  I Bought plenty of tissues.  Just thinking about Michelle saying first on her acceptance speech, with tears, "I love you Heath" and Heath, with watery eyes, I love you Michelle... My living room would turn into a pool.   :'(  My downstairs neighbor won't be happy.  I have good insurances.   ;D

24  categories.

BBM cannot be nominated for Best Foreign Language (tough with Ennis strong Texan accent  ;)) documentaries, animated films,  etc... we still have editing and sound editing that could fit.

It is great that BBM, Michelle and Heath both are on three critics' list. But really upset that Ang Lee is on one and none for Jake.

SUPPORTING ACTOR - Jake
SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Michelle
CINEMATOGRAPHY
ORIGINAL SCORE
FILM EDITING

Predictions for wins:

BEST PICTURE
DIRECTOR
SCREENPLAY ADAPTATION
CINEMATOGRAPHY

My HOPE for an upset:

HEATH LEDGER winning Best Actor over Phillip Seymour Hoffman.


I'm also hoping that it does win.  There could be a backlash against BBM.  If anything I noticed from the Golden Globes last night is that there was a bit of Homophobia evident.

If they added another category, Best Performance by an Animal, BBM could pick up another nomination - the bear was very ferocious and convincing!

P.S. -  I don't think Philip Seymour Hoffman is a shoe-in.  Because it's a romance, BBM has a lot more broad-based appeal as a movie than Capote.  I think this has an influence on the acting awards, because winners are decided by vote.

P.P.S. - I think BBM will win Adapted Screenplay, Director and Cinematography AT MINIMUM.

I agree with these categories - three minimum. But if BBM wins Adapted Screenplay and Director, shouldn't it win Best Picture as well?

After BBM won GG screenplay and director, I was confident that best picture would go to BBM.

Yeah, Ethan, I agree about Best Picture, but I guess I'm being cautiously optimistic - my nature.

BTW, if the sheep won, wouldn't that be Best Performance by a Flock?  :D

Historically, I think the GG winners have coincided with the Oscar winners in the most important categories between 80% and 90% of the time...

You know he might not be so far from truth, I would say editting is possible, and art direction.  Costumes not so sure....
